I'm not going to blabber that the year's coming to an end ,which is an inevitable truth everyone knows.
I'm not going to rant that i've got no new year resolutions whatsoever.
I'm going to be, instead, happy and excited for the new year, COME WHAT MAY.
For all you blog readers, I just did a bit of compiling..and i've come up with my own lists of best and worst ALBUMS , best jazz/soul/R&B songs and best party hits.
I'ma get the ball rolling with the list of best albums.
WARNING: SOME OF THESE ALBUMS were not released in 2007 and i freaking well know that. The following is a list of albums my brain liked when it was in its state at the end of 2007.
(as an added flash of quirk, i included the original photocopy of the list. AND IT'S IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER.)
FIRST UP...
Amy Winehouse's Back to Black
This album was full of soul food (pardon the pun). come on, with mark ronson and salaam remi as producers? this album showcases the best of winehouse's lazy vocal-styling. In fact, I thought it was better than Frank, her debut album.
The songs on this album sound somewhat darker, and more personal, but there are upbeat ones like Addicted, which is my personal favourite!
I think it's one of the albums you should get, besides all your basic offerings from MCR and the like.
Lily Allen - Alright, Still
This unapologetic British singer's debut album is one of the most refreshing pop albums I've ever heard. Noting the piece I wrote about her on this blog, I really love this album. What's more, she's got that unmistakeable British accent that really seems to meld with her songs. I mean, I'd describe her debut album as sugar WITH spice. It's about heartbreak as well, and she sings passionately about it too. Definitely something to have.
Garbage - Absolute Garbage
Garbage was a well-known band back in the 90's, and they've come back with a "best-of" album: a compilation of their best hits and remixes of the years. Yeah, they've even recorded a new track (Tell Me Where It Hurts), which sonds pretty good too.
If you've got the past songs of Garbage, then it's not that advisable to get this one, unless you want the remixes.
Alicia Keys - As I Am
Alicia Keys is back with a new album, and I've got to say, this shows a more personal and emotional side of Alicia. As we all know, this album spawned two hits: Like You'll Never See Me Again and No One. I liked this cos it wasn't something Alicia dished out in time for the holiday season, but something worthwhile and original.
Worth the bucks.
Colbie Caillat - Coco
What more can I say, the reviews and newspapers have said it for me. Colbie was discovered on myspace. I'd rather listen to previews of the rest of the songs before buying the album. She's promising, no matter what.
KT Tunstall - Drastic Fantastic
Nuff read about this album. A boon for die-hard KT Tunstall fans. I love Hold On.
WAIT! I'M smacking my head. of course!! who DOESNT LIKE hold on?
Kanye West - Graduation
The Good Life is my fave track on this album. T-Pain was great on it too. For god's sake, this thing is dynamite!
Maroon 5 - It Won't Be Soon Before Long
Their song I Won't Go Home Without You is perfect to listen to on a rainy day, when you've nothing to do and the rain is pouring outside and you're stuck in bed.
Mark Ronson - Version
Collabs with Amy Winehouse and LilyAllen make this album sound more Motown than club-dj-produce, but it's an entertaining, upbeat album in every aspect.
It 's almost 12am now, but i'll be back tmrw with more lists.
Happy New Year!
