HEY THERE PEOPLE i'm back and it's the damned holidays!
Yesterday, we had our DeepaRaya celebration concert (DPVcc) for two sessions (am & pm) at PEPS!
And, by default (hehe) I was the Indian host, and Raihani was the Malay host. She was also participating in Dikir Barat, this song-singing thing Malays do during celebrations and stuff. I tried to take a pic, but i couldn't find her. Hmm, does not bode well.
Really, being an emcee is one of the most hard yet entertaining jobs ever. I know, you have the best of both worlds. And one thing the school cant get for centuries is the audio-equipment problem. when R and I came on stage to speak, there was this horrible distorted noise beign emitted from the microphones. And that really (a)made us look unprofessional (b)pissed the teachers off (c)made the audience disturbed.
And, for almost every item that involved mics, it went with more than a few hitches. During the drama, the main character's mic didn't work and he was just looking bewildered ON STAGE, until he attained sense, put the mic to sleep, and started shouting his lines. At least he doesn't have singlish intonation or any crap like that, which is the bright side of the problem.
it was a nightmare, the audio problem i meant. during the dikir barat item, the drums were accompanied by that horrific distortion noise. and the PA crew only had the sense to use new mics during the afternoon show, which really made me want to strangle them with my organza shawl. And it's not a very comfortable fabric to be strangled with, since it's very stuffy and hot.
but the preparation/dressing up aspect of the whole thing was kinda fun and happy, since no one knew what damn things were in store for 'em. what on earth, i was wearing this heavy brocade/silk/organza indian traditional costume, consisting of a top, a skirt and the aforementioned skirt. bcos of that, i couldnt change in the toilet. so when i saw one of the two music rooms were empty, i changed all alone in that weird room.
oh the make-up has to have one post all to itself. after changing, i relocated to the other music room, the blue room, since msot of the performers and teachers were there. then 15 minutes later, they started applying make-up for me. the greatest fear i have about the make-up is the foundation. it's mostly the case: the shade they apply is too light for your skin and makes you look like a geisha, but with less rice powder on your face. THANKFULLY, (ill-wishers, your bubbles are burst!) it didn't make me look anything like a geisha, it was ok. i'm not bragging here or anything, but since i was not dark at all, the foundation went well, so i'm really thankful for that. this isn't to say, i'm really fair, cos my skin colour's the shade of bronzy caramel. WHATEVER.
yeah, the eyeshadow looked good on me, despite its'
wayang-like appearance, so that's another kudos to gd genes. and i don't understand the mania about that horrible, cliched red lipstick!! it would look good on some, but not on EVERYONE! and some who should have been wearing something coral or bronze started slapping on the red lipstick like it depended on their lives or smth. what on earth, mine was bronzy.
ok, gotta go. PICTURES i took yesterday are coming up! HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
